Daniel T. Linfante, of Queens, who is currently being held in New York City and awaiting extradition to Connecticut, was arrested by the NYPD Fugitive Task Force, on Thursday, Dec. 13, said the Greenwich Police Department.
Greenwich Police discovered the death when summoned to a hotel in Greenwich on Sept. 29 on a report of a deceased person, said Capt. Robert L. Berry.
Upon arrival, officers found a dead man in one of the rooms. An initial investigation led detectives to believe that the man had died from an overdose of narcotics, Berry said.
An additional investigation by the Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed that the unidentified man died from an overdose of fentanyl and heroin, Berry said.
“Investigators from the department’s Narcotics Section were able to obtain information leading to a suspect who had sold narcotics which led to the death of the deceased," he added.
An arrest warrant was obtained and Linfante was arrested.
Berry said in a statement that the investigation was one part of the collaborative effort within the Greenwich community to address the opioid crisis.
Authorities say they are pursuing a joint strategy to combat the effects of hard drugs hitting the nation, involving education, enforcement and treatment.
"Greenwich Police is using a multi-pronged strategy to address the issue: providing life-saving efforts in the field; connecting users to addiction services; arrests of those manufacturing and distributing drugs; and education," he added. "These initiatives are being done in conjunction with partners in the medical, education and counseling fields.”
